Dr. Lornette Mills

    Mrs. Lornette Mills is a partner for over 17 years, at Gastrointestinal Associates of Maryland. Dr.  Mills grew up in Gingerland, Nevis, with her grandmother, brother and cousins.  She migrated to New York (NY) in 1983, at age of fifteen, to join her mother and the rest of her family.

    Dr. Mills graduated from the George Wingate High School in Brooklyn, NY, in 1985, with salutatorian recognition and a scholarship to New York University (NYU).

    She graduated from NYU in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in biology, as well as a full tuition award to the State University of New York (SUNY), at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Studies, Buffalo, NY.   At SUNY, she earned her medical degree in 1993, and completed her Residency in Internal Medicine at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., in 1996.  She subsequently completed her fellowship in gastroenterology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York, in 1999.

    Upon completing her fellowship, Lornette started her medical career at Calvert Internal Medicine in Maryland, being the first female gastroenterologist to ever work in the area. In 2001, she joined Gastrointestinal Associates of Maryland where she is a practice owner and managing partner today. The Dr. Lornette Mills Educational Fund was established in 2013 and renamed the Dr. Lornette Mills Charitable fund in 2016.

The Dr. Lornette Mills Educational Fund was established in 2013 and renamed the Dr. Lornette Mills Charitable fund in 2016.

    The primary goal of the fund is to provide aid to the people of Nevis.  Since its inception, the fund has provided the following support to Nevis:

    Annual Primary and Secondary School Spelling Bee Competition: Dr.  Mills has contributed an average of US$1600 per year.

    School Meals Program:  Benefit school children in need.  Dr. Mills has increased her contribution from an initial US $5000/year in the early years, to an average US $12,000/year for the past two years, due to increased need.

    Computer Support: provided three All-in-One computers to the Gingerland Secondary School and one to the Nevis Sports Museum, a total contribution of US$1600.

    Nevis Empire Sports Club Aquatic Extravaganza:   Contributed US$3,750 towards the 2017 Culturama event.

    UNESCO Charlestown Project:  In 2017, Dr.  Mills contributed US $5000 to the Nevis World Heritage Committee to help Historic Charlestown obtain heritage status.

    Indian Castle Fisher Folks Association:  in 2018, Dr.  Mills contributed US $1500 to the annual fishing tournament. She has also contributed to a number of smaller projects in Nevis.

    Dr. Mills resides in Maryland with her husband John Rawlins, and their two children, Raquel and Bryce.
